Thanksgiving is a time to spend with loved ones, a time to be thankful for what we have, and a time to remember those who are struggling. The founder of Sunny Biggy Fitness, Sunny Akhigbe, is also the founder of A Boy and His Dream Foundation.

In his book, A Boy and His Dream, Sunny Akhigbe (pen name Okosun), shares the struggles he endured and how he strived to overcome those early challenges. From hunger to being ostracized by a polygamist family, he experienced severe poverty while growing up. At the same time, his elders imparted important lessons that Sunny Akhigbe (pen name Okosun) took to heart, including the message that he was in charge of his own destiny.

Sunny built A Boy and His Dream 501(c)(3) non-profit to help children in Chicago and in Nigeria, so that they, like him, could learn to be in charge of their own destiny. The foundation supports children through mentorship, scholarships, speaking engagements, and more. All funds raised go directly to the children A Boy and His Dream supports. Why do we eat more in cold weather? The cold weather drops our body temperature and our appetites become more stimulated as a result. And eating generates heat... therefore leading to a rise in body temperature! It's a vicious cycle.

Holidays: With the upcoming holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years, we find ourselves socializing more which leads to more alcohol consumption, consuming comfort foods, and sweets heavily laden with calories.

Primitive Instinct: Long ago when we were hunting and gathering, we would increase our caloric intake as the days got shorter and colder. We tend to seek out food and eat it faster during the sunlight hours. 

It's cold outside: And we're just trying to stay warm! A giant bowl of mashed potatoes and hearty stew would keep us warmer than light salads? 

We just want comfort: Cold days take an emotional toll on all of us in one way or another. We just want to snuggle up at home with a bowl of pasta, a bottle of wine, and binge watch Netflix. 

We're going to eat regardless. What should we be eating then?

Mindfulness Morning Event

Our Mindfulness Sunday Morning was blessed with magnificent, inspiring people and delightful autumn weather in downtown Chicago.

The constant challenges that we endure on a daily basis can be quite overwhelming, especially during this pandemic and time of uncertainty, so we thought, let’s create a Mindfulness Morning so that we can come together in unity and reset our minds, bodies, and souls. What we all need now, more than anything, is to come together and build community.

Our Mindfulness morning was carefully curated to include motivational speakers, meditation, a HIIT workout, and music. We also took proper COVID19 measures to ensure that our guests were safe. The energy was powerful and contagious, and everyone walked away with something positive to take home.

A Boy and His Dream Foundation Hip Hop for Charity Event - Sunday, Saturday 20th

Sunny Akhigbe is the CEO and Founder of Sunny Biggy Fitness and the Founder of A Boy and His Dream Foundation. Sunny has dedicated his life to giving back to underprivileged youth.

Join A BOY AND HIS DREAM foundation’s second 2020 virtual/in-person event to help raise money for Chicago students. One of Chicago's top Hip Hop Master Coaches, Ifalabake Oye, will be showing us some hip hop dance moves that you can take home or to the dance floor.

We'll also have one of Chicago's top DJs, Corey Sanford (DJ Corey), from Talent City Artists, spinning hip hop tunes.
The event will be captured by RH Motion Pictures.

A Boy and His Dream Foundation seeks to provide youth the ability to take charge of their lives, and overcome obstacles and adversities. The determination to succeed, no matter the cost, is a story we believe is one that gives hope. A Boy and His Dream Foundation focuses to give back to communities the opportunities and knowledge to be successful and healthy. We achieve this through feeding the homeless, speaking events, and educating our youth through pro bono workshops on local, national and international levels.
